At Catcott School, we have International partner link schools in Kenya, France and China.
Our link in Kenya is with with Zululu School, Gambogi near Kisumu, in the west of Kenya, near to Lake Victoria. It is a rural primary with over 400 pupils. This school link has been going for over 14 years ; Mrs Cosser, Miss Lintern and Mr Ellis have all visited the teachers and pupils at the school over the years. Mr Agumba, the headteacher and Miss Emmie, the English teacher have both been to England and stayed with us and worked with the children at Catcott, sharing language and culture. Year 5 study Kenya as a Geography topic.
Our Chinese Link school is with Junshan Primary School in Yeuyang, mid China, west of Shanghai. This school has over 2000 pupils and we communicate via skype, email and letters. Mrs Cosser and Miss Lintern have both visited the children and teachers at the school to learn about the way the children learn. Mr Tang, the headteacher has visited England and Catcott School. Each year, Chinese New Year is celebrated with our link school, sharing our best wishes with photos and children's work being shared. Year 3,4 and 5 study Mandarin with a Chinese teacher every year and their skills are improving all the time. Year 3 study China as a Geography topic and Buddhism in RE.
Our French Link school is Ecole Marie Curie in Gravenchon, Normandy. This link has been with Catcott school for 4 years and year 6 take part in a week long exchange trip to Normandy every summer. When the french children are at Catcott school, lessons are shared in English and French, games are played and there is lots of laughter! We take our French friends to Glastonbury Abbey to experience some local history and culture. When Catcott children go to France, they have language lessons at their school, try new sports and visit the D day beaches and Bayeaux tapestry. Year 6 learn about World War 2 in History and France in their Geography topic; the exchange trip consolidates their learning in this fascinating subject.
This year, we have been working towards the British Council International Award and these are some of our projects in 2016/2017.
