Our Curriculum
INTENT
At Catcott Primary School, we place great importance on a curriculum which develops the whole child.
Our curriculum is mapped to include coverage of the National Curriculum and prepares and equips children with the knowledge, skills and understanding for life in modern Britain. Our curriculum is designed to challenge, engage and motivate with the ultimate goal that our learners progress academically and become successful, confident individuals, who make a positive contribution to the community and society - both now and in the future.

IMPLEMENTATION
The Creative Curriculum
Our Foundation Curriculum is taught through ‘content organisers’ where the skills and knowledge of the National Curriculum are delivered.
We think very carefully on the content and skills that we want the children to learn in each subject each term and this is outlined in our ‘content organisers’. When planning content, we refer to National Curriculum requirements but have an awareness of the context and demographic of our school and we make sure we expand on previous learning.
The Core Subjects
For our core subjects, we use a variety of planning resources as we believe that following one programme does not provide the bespoke teaching and learning experience that we want for our pupils. Using prior knowledge as a starting point for all future planning and teaching, we plan lessons which are required for all pupils to make progress. Our lessons follow a cycle of planning, to ensure that we can evidence progress over short and long periods of time.
In KS1, we teach our children to read using Unlocking Letters and Sounds. This phonics programme allows our children to very quickly get the basic sounds and quickly progress on to more complex sounds. We particularly focus on using Unlocking Letters and Sounds to get our children reading to a high level and to help them to be able to record their thoughts and feelings using a phonetically plausible (and quite often accurate!) spelling of their chosen word.
We teach reading as a whole class from Y2 - 6 with a focus on understanding and applying reading skills and with an emphasis on developing fluency and stamina. Reading across the curriculum and reading for pleasure is an integral part of our curriculum.
Writing has 4 purposes - to entertain, to inform, to discuss and to persuade. Our teaching is based on a a high quality text for inspiration, with lessons following a cycle through the processes of book talk, analysing a model text, boxing up, shared write and then independent application. We place a great emphasis on teacher modelling and sharing what a 'good one' looks like.
Maths is taught primarily through the White Rose Maths programme. Skills are taught in small steps and consolidated and applied throughout the lesson. Problem solving and reasoning are integral components of our Maths lessons.
We capture data at 3 points across the year, but this will be in accordance with the needs of the child.
Pupil voice is used to support all decision making at Catcott Primary School. To implement our intent, we ensure that our children are invested in their learning, making a positive contribution to the planning and design of our curriculum. Lessons are engaging and follow a creative curriculum which is designed to interest, inform and inspire our children.
At Catcott Primary School, all teachers are responsible for providing an inclusive curriculum that is differentiated for those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND). We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.

IMPACT
Pupils leave Catcott Primary School with a secure understanding of the academic content; with the understanding of how to be socially, morally, spiritually and culturally responsible and aware; how to make positive contributions to the local area and how to endeavour to be the best that they can be. We aim for all of our children to leave Catcott independent, resilient and with the thinking skills that will allow them to achieve their full potential.
