This year, we celebrated European Day of Languages. We were visited by a Peruvian artist, Maya, who is a fluent Spanish speaker. All children were involved in the day. Maya held assemblies for each Year group. All year groups identified where Spanish is spoken using a world map, were taught basic language skills in Spanish and were inspired by Maya's stories, photos and videos from her travels around Spanish speaking countries. For KS1, this also included learning a traditional Spanish Nursery rhyme (un elefante) and KS2 battled it out in a European languages 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' quiz. Maya then spent the afternoon with Year 5 & 6 teaching Spanish art and each child completed their own art piece.
