THANK YOU - £176 RAISED!!!
Thank you to everyone that took part in the PTA Halloween fundraiser just before half term. We were blown away by all the amazing costumes and the fantastic pumpkins. So much effort was put in and you all looked horrifying!
We know fundraising is going to be challenging over the coming months, but we've had a fantastic start with £176 raised.
Fingers crossed we can organise something else nearer Christmas - watch this space!
Thank you again for your continued support.
Review of the last Academic Year by our Chair, Rachael Armstrong
Well who could have predicted the second half of this academic year for not just the PTA but for the school, the country and indeed the world! Coronavirus quite simply knocked us all for six as we lurched between lockdown, home schooling to the new norm of how to wear a face mask in style and social distance.
Despite not being able to fundraise at all for the summer term, I still feel proud to have been Chair for the PTA this last academic year and am proud of how much money has been raised. All the traditional events were hosted in the first half of the year; Halloween Disco, Christmas Movie Night, the Christmas Raffle and personalised Christmas cards. For this last activity we produced a different template to previous years, thanks to a parent who offered to do the printing for the school through their own printing company. Hopefully we will be able to do the same again this Christmas.
The PTA also supported the Year 6 Christmas Leavers Play with refreshments and last summer we utilised our lovely pizza oven at the Catcott Village Association Open Gardens. What a shame it couldn’t take place this year, like so many events. The school did however get a small fix of the wonderful vintage cars usually seen driving around the village for this wonderful day when everyone waved farewell to Mr Axten-Higgs at the end of the summer term. It was great to see parents and children being able to wish him well in his new Headship at a school in Cambridge. It was wonderful to see children and parents lining Manor Road from The King William all the way along to school, holding banners of well wishes, flags and bunting. Our thanks to Gerry Wheeler for this extremely generous gesture – even going to collect Mr Axten-Higgs from his home in Street. And well done to Mrs Foxall for the idea! A brilliantly devised plan right in
the middle of lockdown. Parents donated just shy of £1,000 for a farewell Campervan voucher for Mr Axten-Higgs and his family who are now the proud owners of a wonderful VW van equipped with a rather super awning!
An amazing contribution to the PTA coffers this past year has been a Co-Op grant of £1,300 ear marked for IT equipment, Easyfundraising and some incredible Matchfunding. In total this has added just over £3,500 and its certainly an area we should look to do more of in the future as it requires a small amount of effort for a great return.
I want to end the review with the wonderful Pop Up Snap Up live music event on Valentine’s night at Cossington Village Hall with the fantastic band Snappa. It was a brilliant night of rocking music, delicious chilli, a flowing bar and the opportunity for parents to let their
hair down! I'm really proud that we had such a fantastic team of parents who made it happen. An enormous amount of effort went into making the night such a success, raising just under £2,000, following on from the huge success of Pop Up Rock Up the year before. It would be so fantastic to think we might be able to galvanise support we have within the PTA currently for something similar in the future – Covid free of course!
Being part of the PTA is a tremendous privilege – to work alongside all the lovely parents and teachers who have a common goal, to raise as much money as they can in support of our wonderful village school. Whilst the fundraising will inevitably be different this year, I really hope that the PTA will continue to go from strength to strength. Over the last two years the PTA have raised nearly £15,000!!! This is an incredible sum of money and allows us to subsidise so much. Please give as much support as you can to the incoming Committee and know that any contribution of time is massively appreciated and makes all the difference.
POP UP SNAP UP RAISES £2,600
Due to the huge success of last year’s Pop Up Rock Up, the PTA decided to again host another band night and auction, this time on Valentine’s Night with the fantastic band Snappa.
As with last year, tickets sold incredibly quickly. Cossington Village Hall was decked out in Valentine’s balloons and decorations and at 7:30pm the doors were opened ready to welcome over 150 guests.
Everyone was given a special Valentine’s shot on the door and were then directed towards our Valentine’s themed photo booth, complete with props, to take some fun photos – much giggling was to be heard!
There was a fully stocked bar alongside some delicious Chilli and Veg Chilli to eat and if that wasn’t enough, there was some scrumptious Valentine’s themed cakes to finish off with!
As with last year, alongside the music was an Auction which included; a CarFest Family Ticket, Yvonne Coomber Print, Alce Harfield Festival Print, Glastonbury Festival books & Poster, a bottle of champagne, a four ball day of golf and an Electrician at your disposal for the day! All these items raised over £1,000 for the school!
At 10pm the band Snappa who are a high energy 3 piece band, took to the stage and played a fantastic set with something for everyone; music from the 50’s right through to modern day anthems. They packed out the dancefloor and got everyone dancing and singing away to the hits.
Yet again, another fantastic evening which wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from the local community and all those that donated their time and auction items. We raised an amazing £2,600 for Catcott School – thank you.
Catcott School PTA wish to thank: Matt, Joe & Mick of Snappa, Cossington Village Hall committee, Paula Marsh for taking photos and baking a cake, Paul Blundell for being an amazing auctioneer and for baking a cake, Jessica Thomas for the artwork for the posters, Elaine Ellis for providing all ingredients for the food, Pronto-Packs for the serveware.
Thank you to those that donated items to the auction: Chris Evans & Hiten Vora, Yvonne & Mike Coomber, Alce Harfield, Michael & Emily Eavis, The Crown Inn, Catcott, Enmore Golf Club, Kelly Chesney.
Last year’s money from Pop Up Rock Up has gone towards funding a refurbishment of part of the playground (opening at Easter) along with a day’s workshop for the whole school from Zulu Nation Theatre Group who came all the way from South Africa bringing with them a tremendous amount of energy, we had so much fun. Thank you all again from Catcott School PTA.
A Fantastic End to the Year for the PTA
All the monies have been totted up and over the festive season the PTA have raised the following profit of £964!!!
Thank you all so much, without your support we couldn't do it. All the money will be invested straight back into the school. What a fantastic way to end the year.
Movie night was great fun, I hope all the children enjoyed it and it was a lovely way to end the term for the PTA.
May I take this opportunity of wishing you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 2020 will see us bring back the hugely successful Pop Up Rock Up (this one will be called Pop Up Snap Up) - which promises to be even bigger and better than last year. We can't wait!!
We had a Spooktacular time at the Halloween Disco. Thank you so much to all of you that came and my goodness weren't your costumes amazing. We danced our socks off to all the tunes before tucking into a much needed hot dog. Thank you to the Red Tile at Cossington for providing the sausages and rolls, to the teachers that stayed on to help, all the mums and dads that gave up their time to decorate the school hall, man the kitchen and serve the food and to all you parents that supported us by purchasing the tickets.
50/50 Club Winners
Congratulations to Paul Blundell (Sept) and Denise Watson (Oct) winners of the 50/50 club monthly draw.
EASTER BONNETS & BAKES
What an amazing lot you all are! We had so many beautifully designed Easter bonnets and some absolutely delicious and stunning Easter bakes. Judging them all was so incredibly hard as they were all brilliant and so much effort had gone into everything. Thank you all so much. The Easter Bonnet parade was lovely and much deserved applause was given. Well done to our winners and I hope all of you that took part enjoyed your chocolate lollies. Everyone at the PTA would like to wish you a very Happy Easter and thank you again for your incredible support.
Pizza Oven Launch
Saturday 30th March marked the official launch of the school's brand new pizza oven that was built and donated by Andy Mullet and Glen Forrester.
The pizza oven is situated at the end of the school field, nestled between some blossom trees, overlooking the Mendips - a superb position.
Thank you to everyone that came and supported the event. We sold just under 70 pizzas which is amazing as we had no idea how many to cater for! There was a fantastic atmosphere as always and it was lovely to be able to sit out on the school field in the sunshine and watch the children playing.
We look forward to incorporating the oven into many more events, especially as summer is on the way.
POP UP ROCK UP RAISES A STAGGERING £5,000!!!!
Wow, just wow! Thank you to everyone that came and supported the event. We sang, we danced, we ate and we drank. It was a truly fantastic evening and everyone left with huge smiles on their faces, what more could we ask for. Every penny raised is going directly to our wonderful school.
A huge thank you to Gary Stringer and Jack Bessant of Reef, Amy Newton, Simon Murfet and Jools Bath who put on an amazing performance for us all.
Thank you to everyone that donated to the auction (Michael Eavis, Fearne Cotton, Reef, Kate Chidley - Castles in the Sky and Guy Martin), the auction alone raised a whopping £1,000! Thanks to those of you that bid (and pushed the bids up!), Phil Turley - the best auctioneer ever, The Crown Inn, Catcott for the bar, Elaine Ellis of Catcott CVA for the food, Emma Stryker (Em & Woz) for all the photography, Kore Antonsen for the amazing posters, Mike Villis for printing and everyone else who donated items, donated their time and those that came and supported this marvellous event. Catcott PTA extends a huge thank you to you all.
