Welcome to our governors' section.
The governors of the school are responsible for the strategic planning of the school and for agreeing the budget.
In this section you can find the minutes of the meetings and a who's who guide.
Our Governing Board meets 4 times a year: September, December, April and July. These meetings form the core strategic decision making body and guide the overall direction of the school. In between meetings there are 3 sub-committees that meet: The Environment Committee, The Staffing and Learning Committee and the Pay Committee. The Chair of Governors, working with the Clerk to the Governors, sets the agenda for the Full Board Meetings and guides the overall strategic direction of the school working in very close liaison with the Headteacher to ensure that the day-to-day management of the organising fits together with this strategic overview.
The Environment Committee meets 3 times a year - between the September and December meetings, between the December and April meetings and then between the April and July meetings. The purpose of the Environment Committee is to manage the 'environment' of the school - all the bought resources, including the capital elements (such as the ICT network and the building itself). The Environment Committee is responsible for producing the budget which is then recommended to the Full Governing Board at its April meeting. This Committee is made up of roughly half of the Full Governing Board members.
The Staffing and Learning Committee meets 3 times a year - between the September and December meetings, between the December and April meetings and then between the April and July meetings. The purpose of the Staffing and Learning Committee is to oversee all the elements of the school that relate to the people who work and learn here. They oversee the appointments of new staff, and the curriculum. Obviously there is a lot of close liaison between the Staffing and Learning Committee and the Environment Committee - especially around the funding arrangements for effectively staffing our school. This Committee is made up of roughly half of the Full Governing Board members.
The Pay Committee meets once a year - between the September and December meetings. The purpose of the Pay Committee is to review and agree the pay arrangements for the staff. The Headteacher undertakes the performance management of all the staff within the school and makes recommendations regarding pay for staff to this Committee. The Committee makes a decision whether to uphold the recommendations of the Headteacher. in addition to this, the committee also undertakes the Headteacher's Performance Management, usually in consultation with an externally appointed facilitator. The Pay Committee is made up of the Chair of the Full Governing Board and the two chairs of the other two committees.
Governor Skills Audit & Continuing Professional Development Record
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and a balanced mix of skills & experience is an important responsibility of the Governing Board. It reinforces a growth mindset and develops the habit of ongoing learning, in order that as a board we are honing our skills to safeguard our children and help them become life long learners and global citizens.
If you are a new Governor or have been requested to complete an updated skills audit, then please click here to complete the Skills Audit questionnaire.
In terms of CPD, you can consider the following things as relevant, and this is by no means an exhaustive list.
- Training Courses / Conferences / Books & articles read / Networking events / eLearning modules / Management & Leadership Development at work
Please click here to complete the CPD form whenever you complete a piece of CPD whether directly connected to the school or your wider life/roles because it all contributes to the richness of knowledge, experience and expertise that we bring to the school and can apply.
